Ngige-and-Obi
The candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the Anambra State governorship election, Senator Chris Ngige has described Governor Peter Obi’s eight years in office as one characterised by socio-economic retrogression, insecurity and degradation of infrastructure.
Senator Ngige declared that fiscal rascality had recently become the hallmark of Peter Obi’s eight years in office.
He said that besides flouting constitutional provisions, Obi had failed to excel in any single department of governance.

In a statement signed by Mr. Tony Icheku, of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Ngige 2014 Campaign Organisation, Ngige described the call for his resignation as the cry of a desperate and drowning man clutching at a straw.
“If the employers of Mr. Obi were to be Fidelity Bank which he owns, i am sure that he would have been sacked by now for ineptitude, slothful approach to governance and lack of transparency.
“Despite a huge monthly budget of over N500 million as security vote, Mr. Obi had been unable to secure the lives and property of Anambra people, he probably does not know that the 1999 Constitution, section 2.14, describes security of lives and property as the cardinal and fundamental objective of government.
“One therefore is at loss how Mr. Obi expends N500 million monthly and yet Anambra is not garrisoned against kidnappers and armed
robbers. Our former thriving commercial cities of Onitsha and Nnewi are now ghost towns because of insecurity, as both indigenes and investors alike had been scared away by kidnappers.
“For eight years, Mr. Obi refused to conduct elections to the local Government areas and cornered the allocations due to the 21 council areas. Anambra people demand explanations how their money was spent as there is nothing on ground to show any investment in socio-economic infrastructure”, he stated.
The release added that Obi had shown incompetence and corruption in the area of Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, noting that
“Anambra’s IGR has not grown beyond the mark I set eight years ago”.
Meanwhile Obi on Monday at the Women Development Centre in Awka said there was nothing true about the allegations.
He said that it was worthy of note that in the last four years, there have been no single bank robbery in the entire state, just as kidnapping had been reduced to its nearest minimum.
He added while speaking with a cross section of Anambra people that Anambra had one of the lowest federal allocation in the state, but his government had made prudent use of its resources, and had still remained un-indebted to any bank.
