President
Goodluck Jonathan will today, Wednesday storm Anambra State in company
of other bigwigs of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to flag
off the campaign for the party’s candidate, Mr. Tony Nwonye ahead of the
November 16 governorship poll in the state.
The flag off ceremony is expected to hold at the Bascilica field, Holy Trinity Catholic Cathedral, Onitsha.
This is coming barely four days after the Vice President, Namadi
Sambo and the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur
presented Nwoye with the party’s flag at the Ekwueme Square in Awka.
In another development, the Nwonye Campaign Organisation has advised
the people of the state to discard alleged rumours making the rounds
that the presidency was sponsoring an opposition candidate for the
Saturday poll.
The Director of Media of the organisation, Mr. Chike Anyaonu told
newsmen in Akwa, the Anambra State capital that it was unfortunate, that
some desperate politicians were involved in name dropping for the sake
of political power.
It was rumoured that the president was behind both the APGA
candidate, Chief Willie Obiano and his Labour Party, LP, counterpart,
Chief Ifeanyi Ubah.
Anyaonu said, “We are aware that some political parties and their
candidates have been going about deceiving the people of Anambra at
their campaign rallies that President Jonathan had pencilled the name of
their candidates for the plum position come Saturday. This is not
true.’’
