Gunmen kill police officer, injure another in Kano

Witnesses said the attackers, believed to be members of Boko Haram took on the unsuspecting officers at about 10pm in Kabuga area of the state capital.
The ensuing exchange of gunshots raised fresh anxiety, causing traffic in some parts of the state to immediately thin down as the news of the attack spread.
Contacted for details, the spokesman of Kano
State Police Command, ASP Magaji Magiya, confirmed the death of an officer, saying his injured colleague had been admitted in an unnamed hospital. He stated that the patrol team repelled the attack.
Magaji stressed that investigation into the attack had started, adding that since the attackers emerged from the dark and fled in the same direction, nobody could say if they were Boko Haram insurgents or armed robbers.
Meanwhile, one person has been confirmed dead while six others were injured in an auto crash that occurred along Mariri area in the state capital yesterday morning.
It was gathered that the bus, which was moving towards Wudil town, summersaulted severally following a hot chase by officers of the state traffic control team, KAROTA.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mohammed Garba, confirmed the accident to Daily Sun on phone, adding that the six injured passengers had been taken to the hospital.
He said the relatives of the deceased person, who hailed from Albasu town in Kano State, had been contacted.
